This year's ComicCon-Bangalore 2014 was at its peak! in organisation, programmes, the ever increasing genres of comic fiction being launched, artists and writers from around the world and fans! The golden age for comics in India is going to begin, if people do not realise it today, soon they will.
Blore's crisp air complemented this year's fresh list of writers and artists. It was a three day expo held in White Orchid Convention, well nestled inside Manyatha tech Park. The pleasant weather kept my energy levels compact against the long travel from one end of blore to other. Ticket counters and entrances were lined with bouncing volunteers whoes passion infected everyone participating in the event.
First day saw the launch of new talents and their comics, some of them are :
Myth of W written by Nikhil Bose an animator, aspiring artist and story teller, Sai Shankar, Dilipesh Daniel, Karun Ramani. It is a little book of present world puzzle and thriller whose answers are netseled deep in the ancient scriptures. The reader has to figure the myth out!
Roberts of Dharma, written by Jay Undurthi and illustrated by Stan Chou. It talks of a post-apocalyptic India with an individuals memory being the most precious commodity. During the launch Mr Jay made an interesting point as to the present state of India being an post apocalyptic one (I agree, we have seen advanced technology, intelligence and evolution a thousand years ago)
Kaal – A story based on Garuda Purana, written by Liam Webb (a U.S based writer), Pankaj Naik and illustrated by Santhosh Pileshwar. It is interesting how writers are finding inspiration from ancient sources, turning them into cocktails that are digestable to the modern minds.
2nd day saw the launch of Ravanayan written by Vijayendre Mohanti and Aghori written by Ram V, both illustrated by Vivek Goel (Holy Cow entertainment). Former is the story of Ram and Ravanan from Ravanan’s perspective and the second is the adventure story of a family man turned aghori/ his journey towards realisation and the mysteries he encounters.
2nd and 3rd day also saw the launch of Love me like a psycho, Blind Spot released by Orange studioz – slice of life based stories. You tube launch of Supandi that is soon going to be all out!, Rumi, The Wise Fool of Bhagdad, by Sufi Studioz. Zikr-Vol 1-- the Neelam by Mrinal roy, The Wreck Age By Crimson Studios- Avinash Singh,Vijay Verma,Pramit Santra,Amit Ghadge. Taranath Tantrik TNT By Speech Bubble Entertainment, Parashu Mayhem Creator by Raveesh mohan and priyanka from Orange Studioz!
Amar Chitra Katha rocked the event with three day consequent quiz show, a short video of what goes through in the process of creating a comic and games decorated inside the mini castle installation.
As an icing to the cake, all three days saw wonderful sessions with writer Neil Gayman, Marvel comics editor Sana Amanat, Illustrators David Llyod of Aces Weekly and Dan Parent of Archi Comics, Illustrator and story teller Peter Kuper of Spy Vs Spy and Warld War-3 Magazine.
Now the whole article would be incomplete without a line written about the famed Cos play! Fans thronged with amazing outfits and liveliness to identify with their favourite characters. People travelled from all over India and abroad to be part for the event. Each day saw thousands of people walking in and out of the expo. Even if you are not an avid comic reader, it is an amazing place to unwind with books, cosplay, games and video launches for both young and the old!
